A German humanitarian, theologian, missionary, medical doctor, musical scholar, and Nobel Peace Prize winner. He played the piano, harmonium, and organ.

When I was five years old my father began giving me music lessons on the old square piano… [at] seven I surprised our teacher by playing hymn tunes on the harmonium with harmonies I supplied myself.  At eight […] I began to play the organ.  My passion for that instrument was inherited from my grandfather Schillinger.
