Adult Piano Classes Yield Unexpected Benefits

Many people make the false assumption that learning piano as an adult is going to be too hard — they fall into the ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ mentality. The truth is, nothing could further from the truth!
New evidence shows that old age, “once considered a period of decline and difficulty, is actually a period of creativity and new potential in the human lifespan.”(1) Not only are adult piano classes a rewarding artistic, and possibly social outlet, as is the case with our group piano lessons, but it can have a lasting positive impact on mental, and even physical health.
The mature mind craves fulfilling, stimulating brain activities. “Any activity that optimally uses both the right and left hemispheres is like chocolate to the brain”(2), says Dr. Gene Cohen, director of the (more…)

Beginner Players and the Digital Piano
Posted on Aug 8, 2011 in Featured Products, News & Events, Piano Blog | 0 comments
The newest way for a beginner piano player to learn to read music and play the piano is through digital pianos. Digital pianos (especially Roland digital pianos) have a screen displays the sheet music as well as a guide to show finger placement on the keyboard. This program also permits slow and fast-paced practicing. The screen additionally assesses the student’s playing with a score after the song has played—just like a video game.
These digital pianos can be used at home and in group piano classes since they have headphones to prevent the sound of the student’s playing from reaching others close by. The digital pianos also encourage exploring various genres of music like classical, jazz and contemporary to keep the students motivated to practice.
Another benefit to the digital piano is that they have the feel of the acoustic grand piano as opposed to older electric keyboards. In addition, the digital pianos have three pedals like acoustic pianos, while keyboards have one pedal if any at all.

Digital pianos are becoming a popular choice among those learning to play as well as piano instructors; digital pianos are widely used in the Recreational Music Making (RMM) classes which hold 6-8 students on average. Digitals are becoming the piano of choice due to their contemporary and varied sounds and their similarities to the acoustic pianos more so than conventional keyboards.
LOVE HIM OR LEFT COLD, JUSTIN BIEBER PLAYS THE IVORIES

Love him, hate him or just plain confused by all the hype, Justin Bieber may be more than just a trendy pretty boy with a rather goofy haircut who looks like he’s trying way too hard in his pre-adolescent innocence to figure out what will make ‘tween girls sigh.
It turns out that Justin Bieber, a constant top trender in Twitter (probably the single most influential indicator of popular trends out there today, especially among more social media-savvy youth), plays the piano. And not only does he play piano, he plays drums…and trumpet…
To get a taste of Bieber just playing the piano, check him out on YouTube playing a piece dedicated to his grandmother below.

So the next time you hear your elementary school students singing Justin Bieber songs or you see your young daughter or granddaughter swooning over Justin or your young son or grandson showing up with his haircut, just say, “Justin Bieber plays piano. Maybe if you take piano lessons, you can become famous and popular like him.”
