Roger Federer is all over the twitterverse right now with one of tennis’s great annual events,
the French Open, currently underway. Number 3 seed Federer defeated number 2 seed Novak
Djokovic handily to move into the semi-finals along with number 1 seed Rafael Nadal.
According to askmen.com’s profile on Federer, he may be particularly appealing and magnetic
not only as a tennis player, but also as a celebrity because of his “well-rounded lifestyle and
his strong streak of confidence”. Again, according to askmen.com, when Federer is not on the
tennis court, he’s “been known to play piano, travel to the Swiss mountains, venture to Dubai,
and even hang out with Tiger Woods”.
In an interview with gototennis.com magazine, Swiss-born Federer revealed that he had wanted
to be a rock star before playing tennis and shared that being the lead singer in a rock band
has much in common with being a tennis playing: as a rock lead singer and as a tennis player,
you have the opportunity to inspire and be in direct contact with fans. According to that same
interview, he did play piano and take piano lessons in his earlier years.
Federer’s accolades and accomplishments are too numerous to summarize in a blog, but check
out his bio at imdb.com to see the long list. There’s no doubt that playing piano – with all its
documented advantages – contributed to the skills that make Federer an enormous success on
the court and off.
